During the trial several witnesses came forward to testify that they had seen Carrie Culberson shortly after she disappeared. Some actually talking to her and rode with her in a vehicle.
Norwood Police Officer Ken Lancaster spotted her car speeding past him, his radio called came in as license plate number ROL402 . During the trial the prosecution presented a front plate from Carrie’s car stating it was impossible for Lancaster to have seen the plate.
Vincent put the front plate on Carrie’s car a few weeks before she disappeared So they could go to a concert in Cincinnati.
The license plate was entered as a duplicate plate.
Key Defense Witness Bonnie Davis, who also lived across the street from Vincent the early morning of August 29th also witnessed a male and female arguing outside, she witnessed the female run in front of her home and witnessed a black truck with two people in it, one shorter than the female running got out of the truck letting the other female inside. Davis then witnessed the truck leave. Davis states that her and Billie Jo Brown both agree they seen the same incident. Bonnie Davis had NO knowledge that Carrie Culberson was looking for a black truck that night before she went home.
Davis states that the officer showed her a picture of Carrie and asked if she was the female she witnessed that evening, Davis said it did not look like her.
The detective’s report about talking with the referee from the volley ball game where Carrie had been at the evening of her disappearance. He stated Carrie was unusually disruptive that evening, stopping the game to get drinks of beer even.
This news article states Carrie's best friend Cecily Kukuk admitted Carrie smoked pot, took prescription pills, and ingested cocaine.
Tonya Whitten testified that she had gave Carrie a Xanax the day she disappeared.
The investigators in this case did not take a handwritten statement from Bonnie Davis. They instead typed up an affidavit, making changes and having Bonnie initial the changes just before she testified.
On May 16th 1997 Norwood Police Officer Ken Lancaster seen a car speeding past him and he reads the license plate number to Carrie’s car. During trial the defense attorney read any other possible numbers Officer Lancaster could have seen, none came back to a small red car.
Here Officer Lancaster gives the location to where he spotted Carrie’s car and he said SMITH RD.
Officer Lancaster states the car was traveling on SMITH ROAD heading towards Cincinnati.
This is a withheld call to Col. Smith saying they need to check this garage for Carrie’s car. You take SMITH ROAD to get to it.
This information was never investigated.
This is included as new evidence.
This is Catherine Hackney’s trial testimony of what she witnessed on August 31, 1996. She testified as being positive that Carrie was the girl she seen.
