key Witness mitchell epperson

Mitchell Epperson also labeled "The Jailhouse Snitch." Epperson alleged while in jail with Vincent that Vincent admitted to killing Carrie.

1998 The jury spoke to Dateline and said they did not find Mitchell Epperson to be a credible witness.

3-13-99 Mitchell Epperson’s handwritten Affidavit states 1-97 Detective Brian Edwards came to take his recorded statement. This recording was withheld from the Defense.

Epperson states a month later Detective Bill Hidy CALLS him at his mother’s and asked if he would testify to the grand jury about what he said in his recorded statement.

Epperson said he talked it over with his family and decided to testify so Detective Hidy CAME BACK to his house bringing him a transcript of his statement.

Epperson had seen on the news that there was a reward and asked Hidy if he testified would he be eligible for the reward and Hidy said yes. Epperson asked how he would go about getting the reward and Hidy said through his office.

Epperson testified at the grand jury Detective Hidy gave him a ride home. They heard on the radio an Indictment had already been handed down on Vincent. Epperson again asks Hidy if Vince gets convicted will he get the reward Hidy replies back yes.

The day Epperson testifies he was waiting in Rick Moyer’s office with Debbie Culberson, Roger Culberson, and Christina. Detective Hidy came in telling Epperson he was next to testify.

Once again Epperson asked Hidy if Vince gets convicted will he get the reward money and how would he collect it. Ms. Culberson overhearing this Hidy once again said you would go through the prosecutor’s office.

After Vince’s conviction Epperson made several attempts to contact Hidy with no response back. Epperson called the prosecutor's office attempting to contact Moyer or Peelle with no response back.

One year later Debbie Culberson called Epperson stating the prosecutor’s office was handling the distribution of the reward.

When Epperson testified, he had a warrant for a felony. Prosecutor Rick Moyer knew this. Epperson was not arrested until 8-7-97. Moyer stated ‘You’re with us” meaning he wouldn’t be arrested at the time he testified.

John Rion handed Judge McCracken the bench warrant for Epperson during Epperson’s testimony, but Epperson was not detained.

Epperson states when he was arrested in Norwood on the felony charge, he seen his file and a note on it saying hold off on arresting Epperson until after he testified request from Clinton County.
